Facebook audio after the launch of Live Audio Rooms

In 2021, Facebook announced its audio plans and began rolling out Live Audio Rooms and podcasts. Its June 21 announcement described the initial rooms for public figures and selected groups in the US.

What changed

In 2022, Meta said it was integrating Live Audio Rooms into Facebook Live and discontinuing other audio products, including podcasts and Soundbites. TheStreet published the company's spokesperson statement; the old story about a forthcoming standalone app is no longer a valid product roadmap.

Plan useful audience conversations

Start with a purpose: customer questions, an interview, a product discussion or a community meeting. Choose a format based on where your audience participates and what your account can currently access.

Before announcing an event, test broadcasting, guest invitations, moderation, recording and sharing. Check feature names and availability in the current interface and platform help.

Prepare the session

  • Collect questions and agree on the topic with participants.
  • Test sound, connectivity and a backup contact method.
  • Assign a host and a comment moderator.
  • Agree on recording permission and later use of clips.

Afterwards, review substantive questions and enquiries, and publish a short write-up on your website. Use listeners' actual suggestions to plan the next session.
