A website copyright audit checks whether you have the right to use every image, text, font, video and piece of code on your site, lists the items without a licence or clear origin, and prepares replacements before a rights holder sends a claim.

In short
- We check images, texts, fonts, video, music, icons, plugins and themes on every page type.
- Each item gets a status: own, licensed, free licence with conditions, or unknown origin.
- Items with risk are replaced with licensed or own materials, or licences are bought.
- The audit is a technical and marketing check; legal opinions on disputes come from your lawyer.
- The price depends on the number of pages and media files.
What the audit covers
- Images. Reverse image search to find the source, stock licences, photos from suppliers and manufacturers.
- Texts. Duplicate checks against other sites, copied descriptions from suppliers and competitors.
- Fonts. Font licences for web use, including self-hosted and embedded fonts.
- Video and music. Background videos, embedded clips and music in promo videos.
- Code and themes. Paid themes and plugins with valid licences, open-source licence terms.
- Trademarks. Third-party logos and brand names used on the site.
- Documentation. A register of materials with source, licence and expiry.
- Replacement. Own photos, licensed stock, rewritten texts and free fonts where needed.
Why copyright claims reach websites
Photo agencies and rights holders use automatic image search and send claims to site owners, often years after the image was uploaded. In Ukraine copyright is governed by the Law "On Copyright and Related Rights" of 2022; in the EU and the UK rights holders act under their own national laws, and in the US site owners receive DMCA takedown notices. In each case the site owner answers for the content, even if a former contractor uploaded it.
Protecting your own content
The audit also covers the other direction: whether competitors copy your texts and photos. We find copies, prepare evidence with dates and screenshots, and help file takedown requests with hosts and Google. Legal steps beyond that are taken by your lawyer.
How the copyright audit goes
- Inventory. Crawl of all pages and media files.
- Source check. Reverse search and duplicate checks.
- Licence review. Stock, fonts, themes and plugins.
- Risk register. Status and action for each item.
- Replacement. New materials and updated register.
How long does the audit take?
In our experience an audit of a small business site is usually done within one to two weeks. Online stores with thousands of product photos take longer and are scheduled after a first crawl.
Replacement of risky materials is planned after the register is approved, starting with the pages that get the most traffic.
What affects the cost
We quote after a first crawl. The price depends on:
- number of pages and media files;
- number of languages;
- depth of text duplicate checks;
- volume of replacements and new materials.
What we need from you
- Access to the CMS and media library.
- Licences, invoices and contracts for photos, fonts and themes you have.
- Contacts of previous contractors, if available.
- A contact for questions about materials from partners and suppliers.
What you get
At the end you receive:
- a register of materials with source, licence and status;
- a list of items replaced or licensed;
- rules for adding new content safely;
- evidence of copies of your own content, if found.
Why check before a claim arrives
Preventing a claim costs less than settling one:
- an image from a search engine used years ago still counts;
- a font licensed for print only is used on the web;
- a nulled theme brings both licence and security problems;
- supplier descriptions copied to hundreds of product pages.

FAQ
What is a website copyright audit?
A check of the origin and licences of images, texts, fonts, video and code on a website, with a register of materials and a plan to replace or license risky items.
Can we use images found in Google?
Only if you hold a licence or the author allows use. An image found through search comes with no rights to use it.
Are free stock photos safe?
Usually yes, within their licence terms. We check each licence, since conditions differ between sites and some images are uploaded without the author's consent.
Do you give legal advice?
We do the technical and marketing audit. For disputes and legal opinions we recommend your lawyer, and we prepare the evidence and register for them.
Can you find who copies our content?
Yes. We search for copies of your texts and images and help file takedown requests.
Do you audit sites for foreign markets?
Yes. We audit English-language and multilingual sites for companies in the UK, the EU and the US.
