Remarketing
This category is about remarketing: bringing back visitors who left the site without an enquiry. We cover audience lists in GA4 and Google Ads, dynamic remarketing for stores through Merchant Center, Meta Ads retargeting and tag setup in Google Tag Manager. Frequency is a separate topic. Pushy ads annoy people, so we cap impressions and exclude those who have already bought. For online stores we show products the person already viewed, using the catalogue feed.
We launch remarketing within a few working days after getting access to Google Ads, GA4 and GTM.
How remarketing works, step by step
- We install Google Ads and Meta tags on the site through Google Tag Manager.
- In GA4 and Google Ads we build audiences: people who viewed a service, added a product to the cart or started filling in a form.
- For online stores we connect the product feed from Merchant Center to show the products a person has already viewed.
- We cap ad frequency and exclude people who have already sent an enquiry or bought.
- We count enquiries in GA4 and compare their cost with regular advertising.
Frequently asked questions
How many visitors do I need to start remarketing?
Google Ads starts serving ads to a list once it has enough active users. For small sites lists take a few weeks to build, so it is best to install the tags when the site launches.
What is the difference between remarketing and retargeting?
In practice they are the same thing: ads for people who have already visited the site. Google Ads uses the word “remarketing”, while Meta Ads and other platforms more often say “retargeting”.
How do you keep the ads from annoying customers?
We cap frequency, set how long a person stays in an audience and exclude people who have already bought. That way people see the ad a limited number of times.
