How to do a  SWOT analysis based on competitors

     A SWOT analysis requires an objective outside view of the company's results. To process data on internal processes properly, a SWOT analysis uses a special table split into the four categories described above.

     Each block of this matrix is a list of important questions that need clear answers during the analysis:

1. Strengths:

  • what makes your product better than your competitors';
  • what its advantages and unique features are;
  • what makes your company attractive to customers.

2. Weaknesses:

  • what obstacles stand in the way of the company's growth;
  • what risks and problems are possible;
  • whether customers complain, and about what exactly.

3. Opportunities:

  • what needs to and can be changed in the work;
  • whether additional resources are available;
  • how beneficial the latest trends are for the business.

4. Threats:

  • what market processes affect demand for the products;
  • how active the competitors are;
  • whether there are legal and political factors that could hurt the company's performance.

     The completed data should be discussed with the team to gather more opinions and material for the analysis. For this, every employee should answer these questions. Then department heads systematize, filter and process the information, and the strategy for further development takes shape.
