Specifics of Building a Website for a Law Firm

A law firm website must quickly answer three questions: does the firm handle this matter, who will work on it, and how to get in touch safely. Build it around practice areas, industries and lawyer profiles.
In short
- The core structure is practice and industry pages linked to lawyer profiles and articles.
- In Ukraine, advocates’ copy follows the Rules of Advocates’ Ethics: no promised outcomes, no comparisons with colleagues.
- Forms and messages fall under legal privilege and data protection: HTTPS, few fields, consent.
- Search visibility needs separate service pages, a Google Business Profile and LegalService markup.
- We build a law firm website within 10 working days once the brief is agreed and materials are in.
Why does a law firm need a website?
People with a legal problem rarely choose a lawyer from a single ad. They search Google for their question, read several sites, check who has handled similar matters, and only then call. The website is where the firm shows its specialisms, its people and its approach. It also takes enquiries at night and at weekends.
How should a law firm website be structured?
- Practice areas. Corporate, tax, litigation, immigration, family: one page each, describing typical matters and how the firm works.
- Industries. IT, construction, agriculture, real estate, for clients looking for a lawyer who knows their sector.
- Lawyer profiles. Photo, education, licence number, practice areas, publications. People choose a person.
- Insights. Explainers on legal changes and common questions. This is the main source of search traffic.
- Linked content. A practice page links to its lawyers and articles, and a lawyer profile links back to their practices, so a client sees relevant experience in two clicks.
- Contacts and booking. Address, map, phone numbers, messengers and a form.
Which ethics rules apply to the copy?
When a site presents an advocate or a bar association member in Ukraine, the copy is governed by the Rules of Advocates’ Ethics (adopted by the Congress of Advocates of Ukraine on 9 June 2017, as amended) and the Law of Ukraine "On the Bar and Practice of Law". Other jurisdictions have their own professional conduct rules, and the principles are similar.
- Information about the lawyer must be accurate and not misleading.
- Avoid promising outcomes: "we will win your case" or "money back in a week" are off limits.
- Avoid comparisons with other lawyers and claims such as "the best lawyer in town".
- Case studies must be anonymised and published with the client’s consent: privilege covers even the fact that someone became a client.
How to protect client data on the site
Clients often describe their problem in the contact form. That is personal data and, in effect, the start of a privileged communication.
- HTTPS across the whole site; enquiries go to the firm’s corporate mailbox or a CRM (HubSpot, Pipedrive, KeyCRM).
- The form asks for a name and one contact; the "describe your matter" field is optional.
- Consent to data processing under Ukrainian data protection law and, for EU clients, the GDPR.
- Access to the admin panel and enquiries only for designated staff, with two-factor authentication.
Add a confidentiality clause to the contract with your web developer, since they will see internal material.
How does a law firm website win clients from search?
- A separate page for each service and city, for example "company formation Kyiv".
- A Google Business Profile with the right category and genuine reviews.
- LegalService and Organization markup, with Person markup on lawyer profiles.
- Articles that answer client questions directly in the first paragraph; Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT quote them.
The first noticeable SEO results usually arrive after about three months. For urgent searches, Google Ads can run in parallel, with the same ethical limits applied to the ads.

Frequently asked questions
What sections does a law firm website need?
Practice areas, industries, lawyer profiles, insights, and contacts with a booking form. The sections link to each other: a practice leads to its lawyers and articles, and a profile leads to that lawyer’s practices.
Can a lawyer publish reviews and won cases?
With care. Ethics rules forbid misleading statements and promised outcomes, and privilege requires the client’s consent. Case studies are published anonymised and with consent.
How do I protect client enquiries on a law firm website?
Use HTTPS, keep required fields to a minimum, send enquiries to a corporate mailbox or CRM, collect consent for data processing, and limit staff access to enquiries with two-factor authentication.
How much does a law firm website cost?
It depends on the number of practice areas and languages, CRM and booking integrations, and the amount of copy. We give an exact quote after the brief.
How long does it take to build a law firm website?
Within 10 working days once the brief is agreed and materials are in. Projects with CRM and online booking integrations are quoted after the specification.
