School website development

A Ukrainian school website must publish the documents and data listed in Article 30 of the Law on Education: charter, licence, structure, staff, admission rules and reports. Plus news, timetables and contacts. Built in up to 10 working days.

In short

  • Article 30 of the Law on Education sets the list of information a school publishes on its website.
  • Parents look for three things: admission rules, the timetable and contacts. Each should be one click from the home page.
  • Pupil photos are published only with parental consent.
  • The site must read well on phones and be accessible to people with visual impairments (WCAG 2.1).
  • Timing: up to 10 working days after the brief and materials.

What must a school publish on its website?

Article 30 of the Law of Ukraine "On Education" ("Transparency and information openness of an educational institution") requires the website to show:

  • the charter, licences for educational activity and accreditation certificates for programmes;
  • the structure and governing bodies, and teaching staff with their qualifications;
  • educational programmes and the list of their components;
  • the catchment area, licensed capacity and actual number of pupils, and the language of instruction;
  • vacancies and how they are filled;
  • facilities and accessibility conditions for pupils with special educational needs;
  • quality monitoring results and the annual activity report;
  • admission rules and a list of additional educational services;
  • tuition fees for private schools; the budget and financial report for state and municipal schools.

We collect these documents in a "Public information" section with clear titles and update dates.

Which structure works for parents and pupils?

  • Home. News, key announcements and quick links: admissions, timetable, contacts.
  • Admissions. Rules, deadlines, documents, catchment area and a question form.
  • Learning. Lesson and bell timetables, holidays, clubs, links to the electronic gradebook and Google Classroom if the school uses them.
  • Teachers. Form tutors, subject departments and administration contacts.
  • School life. Events, achievements, photos and video.
  • Contacts. Address, map, phones, email and the head teacher's office hours.

How do you protect children's data?

Photos and videos of pupils appear only with written parental consent and without surnames. Forms collect the minimum data. The site runs over HTTPS, and admin access uses personal accounts instead of one shared teachers' password.

How do you make the site accessible?

We follow WCAG 2.1 level AA: sufficient text contrast, alt text on images, keyboard navigation and documents that screen readers can read. Documents are published as text or as PDFs with a text layer, never as image scans. Parents often open the site on a phone, so we test it on screens from 360 pixels wide.

How do people find a school website on Google?

For a state school, it is enough to be found by name, school number, district and "school near me". Google Business Profile, schema.org School markup and complete metadata help. A private school needs searches like "private school Kyiv" or "English-language school", where SEO and Google Ads come in. SEO shows first visible results in about 3 months.

How long does development take?

From our experience, a school website with a public information section, news and timetables takes up to 10 working days after the brief is agreed and we receive documents, photos and texts. A landing page for first-grade enrolment or a summer camp takes up to 3 working days. The platform is WordPress or MODX, so teachers and administrators publish news and documents themselves. A municipal school can order development under a contract, including through Prozorro.
